This is a public wall and footpath that runs along the car park of 470 Glenfield Road.  As you can see, it needed brightening up!  Our counsellor Shireen Tresslor coordinated a project which began in April of 2010 to create this wonderful community mural which was installed on the wall on the 9th of April, 2011.
Eight schools in the Glenfield area painted one panel each with images that they thought represented the Glenfield community. Each step of the project involved the community coming together and contributing time, skills and passion.  Several businesses in the community also came foward and supported the project by donating supplies or equipment and the Kaipatiki Local Board provided funding for any purchases that needed to be made.
Come along and have a look!

Historical Posts Relating to the Project
April 2010.  Where we are at now. The principals of the schools in Glenfield have been contacted and they are on board.  They've already had some fantastic suggestions and are thrilled with the idea of giving back to the community.  Can you help?  YES!!!  Do you have any connections that might be useful?  Does your organisation wish to become involved?  Would you or your organisation wish to sponsor a panel of the mural?  Can you help with supplies such as old, good condition paint brushes or rollers or unused paint?  Can you provide other practical help such as helping us fix the panels on the wall? Would you or your group like to participate by providing entertainment for the community day?  If you have answered yes, Shireen would love to hear from you.  You can contact her using our contacts page.  If you have said no to all the above, you can still help by coming along to the community day and spending time with your community.

4th May2010.  The schools are preparing drawings of their intended murals for us to include in the presentation to the community board.  The murals will include representations of the different cultures, landmarks, ages, activities and groups in the Glenfield area.   The draft drawings will be prepared by the 12th of May and the proposal should be ready by the 20th.

19th May2010.  Most of the designs are in!  They look fabulous! Several local businesses have come on board as sponsors and we are now working on the proposal for the community board.
We will continue to keep you updated on developments.

25th May 2010.  All the designs are in.  We have the total cost of the products needed for the mural.  Each panel will cost $210 dollars including base coats, paint, timber and fixings for the wall.  If you are a local business and would like to sponsor a panel, please get in touch with me.  There will be a sponsors board as well with names of each business that has supported this project.  And now TO THE COMMUNITY BOARD!
Will keep you updated on the consent process.

8th June 2010.  WE HAVE CONSENT AND FUNDING! We are just waiting for the funds to be processed and work will begin on the murals.  We still want the community involved as much as possible so please, if you would like to help in anyway, please contact us.  The countdown now begins to the day when the Mural goes up on the wall!

30th August 2010.  The funds have finally been released to us!  Phew! It's been a long wait.  We are now procuring the materials and delivering them to the schools.  The schools have been very supportive and patient and we are so grateful for their committment to this project.  The date set for the Murals to go up on the wall is..... 9 April 2011!  Mark this day in your calenders and come out in support of your community.

22nd March 2011.  Well, the schools have been working hard at their murals.  Most of them are finished and they look fabulous! Our sponsors have been so generous and such a support.  We are all gearing up for INSTALLATION DAY on the 9th of Aprill, 2011.  There will be stalls and entertainment and a chance to celebrate the wonderful talent and hard work that has gone into the making of this mural.

A Great Big Thank You to everyone who joined in and made this community project a success.
